Desktop Studies

Desktop Studies (DTSs) are an integral component of potential offshore construction projects, and have become an industry-standard practice.  Our team at Geo-Marine Technology, Inc. is exceptional at evaluating and synthesizing relevant information, and at efficiently compiling that information into clear and comprehensive reports.  Our DTSs can save your company time and money by giving you the opportunity to evaluate our recommendations before heading into extensive installation projects.

SITE VISITS
Geo-Marine Technology’s experienced personnel have performed site visits in many countries – including Colombia, Panama, Japan, Trinidad and others – to assess the feasibility and associated hazards of potential landfall locations.

RESEARCH
At first order, our DTS research assesses the potential natural and anthropomorphic hazards within a given study area by gathering and synthesizing all available data addressing the following concerns:

  • Bathymetry
  • Oceanography
  • Meteorology
  • Archaeology
  • Human Impacts
  • Permitting
  • Geology
  • Climatol

REPORTING
Each proposed offshore construction project is unique, so the format of our DTSs is highly adaptive in order to best meet the needs of our clients.  Every report we produce therefore provides route-specific recommendations to our clients based on the salient aspects of our analyses and research of the study area.  Detailed figures and charts summarize such considerations, which commonly include:

  • Storm Frequency
  • Slope Steepness
  • Local Fishing Practice
  • Shipping Lanes
  • Existingcable/pipelines
  • Sea surfaces temperatures
  • Seafloor Temperatures
  • Wind and Swell Vectors
  • Protected areas
  • Maritime Boundaries
